Call for Workshop Proposals

IEEE International Conference on Wearable and Implantable Body Sensor Networks, Chicago, USA, May 19-22, 2019

Template for Workshop Proposals

Deadline for workshop proposal submission: December 10, 2018

The 16th IEEE International Conference on Wearable and Implantable Body Sensor Networks (BSN’19) is sponsored by IEEE-EMBS to address the challenges in the emerging sensor medical/healthcare systems and networks. BSN’19 will be co-located with the BHI’19 (IEEE International Conference on Biomedical and Health Informatics) at the UIC Forum, Chicago during 19-22 May, 2019. The joint program (BHI-BSN’19) will have world-renowned speakers from academic and research institutes, government agencies, and industry.

Body sensor networks provide innovative ways to improve treatment outcome and patients’ comfort. They offer novel ways to measure physiology, behavior observations from users. Leveraging innovative systems, communication modules, on-chip and off-line data processing and modeling, these measurements are turned into actionable information. Formation of closed-loop BSN with therapeutic and interventional functions is becoming a reality. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Prototyping of body-worn, ingestible and implantable sensor networks;
  • Novel chemical, biological and textile body sensors;
  • Flexible and/or stretchable electronic sensors and systems;
  • Ultra-low-power or battery-less solutions for longitudinal studies;
  • Machine learning, deep learning and decision support algorithms;
  • Body area communication protocols, models and theories;
  • Security, privacy and trust in body sensor network; and
  • Medical/wellness applications from pre-natal health to elderly care.

BSN’19 will provide dedicated special topics workshops to encourage BSN’19 participants to exchange knowledge and insights, and to cultivate collaborations.

Proposals for Workshops

Workshops: Pre-conference, May 19, 2019

The BSN 2019 Workshops are categorized into regular sessions and tutorials. Regular workshops will cover current and future trends on multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary areas of body sensor networks, such as emerging trends on materials, sensors, wearable and implantable devices, integration of IoT technologies, development of online and offline algorithms and systems for data analytics and visualization, sensor biofeedback mechanisms, just-in-time interventions for behavior change, data security, enterpreneurship, etc.. Tutorial workshops will provide reviews of a specific area related to body sensor networks, including current research directions, challenges, and state-of-the-art practices, but may also involve registrants through a hands-on experience or demonstrations.

A workshop will be delivered by a group of leading researchers and pioneers in their respective areas in a half-day format with a nominal fee charged to registrants. The proposals will be reviewed by the workshop organizers. Please note that workshop submissions will be included in the digital program of BSN 2019 but will not appear in IEEE Xplore Proceedings. A website will be made available to Workshop registrants to download any materials provided by the Workshop organizer(s). Workshop organizer(s) may provide additional material such as handouts to participants during the Workshop.

Proposal Submission

Please submit your special session proposal by December 10, 2018 through the EDAS management system ( Presentations and materials offered to workshop registrants will be reviewed by the workshop scientific committee. The organizers are fully responsible for ensuring the quality of the workshop content.
